Life in six words
February 28, 2008
I was just browsing through Amazon yesterday and stumbled upon this book. Not Quite What I Was Planning is a compilation of six-word memoirs from people in all walks of life (both famous and obscure). From some of the excerpts I’ve read, this book is already shaping up to be a unique and compelling read. It is amazing to find out what people can convey about their lives using just six words.
What would be my six word memoir? Not yet certain, future looks bleak.

Not that anybody cares, but…
February 26, 2008
There’s been a lot of confusion about my nick, “XsteR” (which I use for everything…including the address of this blog). Such as what the hell it really means. So I’m here to give it to you straight.
Waaaaay back in the day, my AIM sn used to be “jackster” or something like that. But I thought that was lame (and it is). So, seeing as how my Chinese name starts with an X, I decided to combine the X (which sounds way cooler, by the way) and “ster”. And to top it off, sometimes when I write it I capitalize the first AND last letters. So it is written on the back of my May House IM Basketball shirt.
Boring, right?

Stress Relief
February 26, 2008
Some people meditate. Some people read a book, squeeze a stress ball, or engage in a hobby. Some even rub one out. Nobody, however, does it like Stephen A. Smith. What’s his stress-relief method? Cheez (sp?) doodles. That’s right, Stephen A. Smith eats Cheez doodles when he’s stressed. And here’s the youtube video to prove it:
He really likes them cheese doodles. Also, he uses the word “temerity” (correctly too)!

p.s. I really don’t have a set thing to do when I get stressed. But cheez doodles sounds good.

Baseball. Not Steroids, Just Baseball (and just the White Sox)
February 19, 2008
Now that Spring training is in full swing, I thought I’d share my thoughts about the upcoming 2008 Baseball season. Or just the White Sox, I guess. Before I get started, however, here’s a prediction from those so-called experts at Baseball Prospectus. Their system, PECOTA, predicts the Sox will finish with a record of 77-85. Although their system was pretty accurate (dead-on, actually) about our record last year, I see fit to make a couple of predictions of my own.
1. The entire White Sox team will shake off the cobwebs from last year and all have good (or career) years. Or at least we’ll sit Uribe so I don’t have to look at the ridiculousness of his “swing”.
2. Our rotation stays together, with Danks and Floyd forming a dynamic 1-2 combo at the bottom of our rotation. Hey, I can hope, right?
3. Our bullpen pulls their heads out of each other’s asses.
4. Nick Swisher. At least he’ll be entertaining.
5. We can always look ahead to 2009.
Despite all the concerns about our pitching staff, our infield platoon, our chemistry, and the general beastliness of our division (see Tigers, Detroit), I’m going to go the optimistic route and predict a finish of 82-80. We won’t be making the playoffs, but at least we’ll have our dignity back. Maybe?
Go Sox!

Holy crap…

Both ginormous and ridonkulous are words.
Does this mean I can use these in my SOSC papers from now on?
May Loses v. Henderson
February 12, 2008
In what was a hard-fought, gritty game that came down to the last shot, May House IM Basketball suffered its first loss of the season against a Hendu team that gave us all we could handle. May House hung tough despite being without two of our starters in Choi and Yilei, but simply could not bring the same type of tenacious perimeter defense that had been a staple of our wins this season.
Despite this loss, May House heads into the IM Playoffs as a #1 seed with one thing in mind: the championship. Will we accomplish what we set out to do this season?
