Friday’s Random Thoughts
August 4, 2007
Holy crap. I can’t believe I didn’t hear about this until now. Yeah, I pretty much suck.
In other news, my parents recently got a pretty good washer/dryer set for the house. It’s something made by LG, and it does steam washing, which means less trips to the dry cleaners. I thought that was pretty cool, until I saw this washing machine that doesn’t need detergent. Of course, this brings up the dilemma of how to get my clothes to smell fresh. Maybe they’ve got something for that too…
In an earlier post, I showed you some of the best Facebook apps according to Lifehacker and Mashable. Now it turns out Webware has a list of Facebook’s favorite Facebook apps (shhh…I’m not being redundant at all at all!).
Simcity Societies is shaping up to look pretty neat (totalitarian, eh?). The unfortunate thing is that it’s not developed by Maxis, which means a big departure from the previous games (no zoning, etc). Still, maybe worth checking out come November…if you’re not already occupied with the slew of big-name titles coming out (Guitar Hero III, anybody?)
The Japanese just keep coming up with more and more ridiculouly overpriced fashion statements. Bathing Ape is renowned for its style, but it’s just as well known for being expensive as hell. Although, I don’t think anything they’ve made tops this Gundam shirt adorned with Swarovski crystals. Sure it looks good, but it’ll set you back a cool $1700. Hell, for THAT much, I’ll personally buy and sew the damn crystals on the shirt.
Not that any of you readers would even think about drinking and driving, but in case your judgement is hampered a little too much, Nissan’s got you covered. Stuff is getting too fancy. Whatever happened to that good friend who’d knock your lights out and take your keys?
Google Maps has added data about how long you’ll be stuck in traffic. Maybe I’ll do a real-world comparison when I get back. Because I love being stuck in traffic on the Ryan.
Any site named Mister Wong deserves a look. Seriously, click on the link. It’ll be interesting! It’s social bookmarking, but I’m sure you already clicked as soon as you saw the name.
Just a couple of updates about me now (there go some readers). I’ve worked at SYWG for about 5 weeks now, and I’ve learned…a little. But nothing too useful. It seems that interns in China all get mindless tasks to perform, regardless of whether they’re undergrads or graduate students. Yup, even those that understand Chinese (yours truly not included) have to do the simplest tasks. There’s gotta be a better use for the bright young minds that are working there, right? Basically, they’ve got all the interns (me included) opening envelopes and writing down the account numbers of the clients inside the envelopes. And rinse, and repeat. That’s all I’ve been doing for the past week. Oh, I have about 1000 envelopes. Boring doesn’t begin to describe it, but that’s what I signed up for.

Is your internship paid? Because it seems like they could save a lot of money by just hiring local people for the work that you are doing.

Yeah, my internship is paid, albeit not much. I get about 60RMB a day, and my first paycheck netted 1320RMB (or about $175).

Hey fuck that man, if I want to drive drunk, my car better not be able to stop me. Not that I ever ever would, but I certainly wouldn’t want my car to decide I’m too drunk to drive. That’s creepy.
